Group stage — 12 groups of 4 teams
48 teams are split into 12 groups of 4. Every team plays the other 3 in their group. The top 2 from each group qualify automatically for the knockout stage.

Best 8 third-place teams
The 12 third-place finishers are ranked by points, goal difference, and goals scored. The best 8 advance — the bottom 4 are eliminated along with all 12 last-place teams.

Knockout stage — Round of 32 to Final
The 32 qualified teams enter a single-elimination bracket. Lose once and you're out. Winners advance through the Round of 16, Quarter-finals, Semi-finals, and the Final on July 19 at MetLife Stadium.
